AI Roleplay: Respond to "We Don't Have Budget"

"We do not have budget" is the most common objection in any compensation conversation - and the one most people accept at face value. But "no budget" is rarely a final answer. It usually means "no budget for what you just asked for, in the way you just asked for it."

The coach has been on both sides of this conversation - as the manager delivering the budget objection and as the coach preparing people to navigate it. The framework is Acknowledge → Probe → Pivot. First, validate the constraint without conceding. "I understand" is not the same as "I accept." Then probe to understand what flexibility exists - budget cycles, alternative levers, timing. Finally, pivot to a concrete alternative: a different form of compensation, a timeline for revisiting, a milestone that would unlock the ask.

In this session the coach will roleplay a manager who keeps saying no in different ways - budget, headcount, timing, policy. You will practice keeping the conversation alive without becoming confrontational, and leaving every exchange with a next step instead of a closed door.
